Congratulations on your driver’s license! But before you hit the open road, keep in mind a few teen driving tips… These are by no means comprehensive, but are good to keep in mind every time you get behind the wheel.
Teen Driving Tips
  • Always follow all the rules that apply to your GDL (Graduated Driving License) or Learner’s Permit.
  • Always wear your seat belt – and make sure all of your passengers are wearing their seat belts.
  • Speaking of passengers – the fewer the better – it will be much less of a distraction if there are not too many people in the car.
  • Adjust the car for your comfort and safety – especially the head rest, to lessen your risk of whiplash.
  • Keep your car clean – inside and out – a clean car, offers fewer distractions.
  • Avoid aggressive drivers and don’t make assumptions about what other drivers will do.
  • Keep an eye on you gas level so you don’t end up stranded.
  • Don’t ever leave any valuables in the car that can be easily seen, which will increase your risk of theft.
  • Prepare a car emergency kit and keep it in your car at all times – Print out our Car Emergency Kit Checklist here.
  • Never drive while texting, under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or when extremely fatigued.
